Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Heavy Civil Equipment Superintendent to oversee equipment operations across a designated area. This position plays a critical role in ensuring fleet readiness, coordinating maintenance activities, and leading a team of field mechanics. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy equipment used in civil construction, proven leadership skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of field mechanics and shop mechanics across assigned projects or region.
- Ensure all heavy equipment is maintained, repaired, and inspected to meet operational demands and safety standards.
- Serve as the liaison between project teams and the equipment department—aligning equipment availability with project needs.
- Monitor equipment utilization, condition, and lifecycle across the area and provide strategic input on fleet decisions.
- Schedule and prioritize preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and rebuilds in coordination with project timelines.
- Conduct routine site visits to assess equipment performance, monitor mechanic productivity, and ensure adherence to maintenance protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of service, repairs, and equipment movement.
- Train and mentor field mechanics, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with vendors and external service providers when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, MSHA/OSHA standards, and company safety policies.
- Participate in equipment inspections, incident investigations, and root cause analyses when required.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction equipment maintenance and operations.
- 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of heavy equipment including dozers, excavators, loaders, scrapers, haul trucks, and support equipment.
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and telematics.
- Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
- Proficient with maintenance tracking systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- CDL or ability to obtain one preferred.
