Earthwork CAD Technician

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Earthwork CAD Technician with strong experience in earthwork takeoffs and digital modeling using Trimble Business Center (TBC). This role supports our Pre-Construction team by producing accurate quantities, constructible models, and data.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed earthwork takeoffs and quantity calculations for heavy civil projects.
- Develop and maintain 3D models in Trimble Business Center, ensuring accuracy and constructability.
- Interpret civil plans, surveys, specifications, and geotechnical reports to support estimating activities.
- Prepare cost estimates and budgets for materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractor scopes.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to validate assumptions and ensure alignment on project approach.
- Assist in data management, file organization, and model handoff to operations.
- Maintain current knowledge of TBC tools, construction technology, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating, earthwork takeoffs, or related pre-construction roles.
- Proficiency in Trimble Business Center (Corridor modeling, surface creation, takeoff tools, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, survey data, and digital terrain models (DTMs).
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to create constructible 3D models that reflect realistic means and methods.
- Proficiency with estimation software (HCSS or similar) preferred.
- Field experience in heavy civil construction is a plus.
- Drone mapping or GPS machine control experience a bonus.
