Earthwork CAD Technician

Location: Orem, UT
Employment Type: Full-Time, In-Person only (No Hybrid)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Earthwork CAD Technician with strong experience in earthwork takeoffs and digital modeling using Trimble Business Center (TBC). This role supports our Pre-Construction team by producing accurate quantities, constructible models, and data.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed earthwork takeoffs and quantity calculations for heavy civil projects.
• Develop and maintain 3D models in Trimble Business Center, ensuring accuracy and constructability.
• Interpret civil plans, surveys, specifications, and geotechnical reports to support estimating activities.
• Prepare cost estimates and budgets for materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractor scopes.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to validate assumptions and ensure alignment on project approach.
• Assist in data management, file organization, and model handoff to operations.
• Maintain current knowledge of TBC tools, construction technology, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating, earthwork takeoffs, or related pre-construction roles.
• Proficiency in Trimble Business Center (Corridor modeling, surface creation, takeoff tools, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, survey data, and digital terrain models (DTMs).
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to create constructible 3D models that reflect realistic means and methods.
• Proficiency with estimation software (HCSS or similar) preferred.
• Field experience in heavy civil construction is a plus.
• Drone mapping or GPS machine control experience a bonus.
