Job Summary
The Asphalt Paving Superintendent oversees daily field operations for asphalt paving crews, ensuring projects meet production goals, quality specs, and strict safety standards. You will coordinate trucking, asphalt plant deliveries, rolling patterns, and traffic control while mentoring foremen and laborers to achieve smooth, durable mats on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule paving operations, trucking, and plant production to meet project timelines.
- Direct paver, screed, roller, and support crews to achieve target density, smoothness, and joint quality.
- Monitor temperatures, depths, and mix designs; adjust rolling patterns and equipment settings as needed.
- Work closely with QC/QA staff to coordinate testing and address corrective measures promptly.
- Enforce WW Clyde safety policies, identify hazards, and lead daily toolbox talks.
- Manage labor hours, equipment utilization, and material quantities; submit daily reports and cost tracking.
- Coordinate with project managers, owners, and inspectors during paving activities and progress meetings.
- Mentor foremen and operators; promote continuous improvement and crew development.
- Maintain an insurable driving record and travel to nearby projects as required.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience supervising asphalt paving operations on roads or highways.
- Strong knowledge of paver setup, screed controls, rolling patterns, and mix behavior.
- Proven ability to read and interpret plans, grades, and project specifications.
- Solid understanding of DOT paving standards and QC/QA testing procedures.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (Excel, email); exposure to HCSS or similar field-reporting software a plus.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to work nights or weekends as project schedules require.
